Approach to Therapy
Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Each individual brings unique experiences, challenges, and goals into the counseling process, which is I take an integrative approach to therapy. This means drawing from multiple evidence-based therapeutic modalities to create a treatment plan that is tailored to each client’s specific needs.
I incorporate approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behavioral patterns while developing practical tools for lasting change. By integrating different therapeutic techniques, treatment can be adapted to support both insight and skill-building throughout the healing process.
I am trained in EMDR therapy, an evidence-based approach designed to help individuals process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR helps the brain reprocess difficult memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming, allowing individuals to move forward with greater clarity and resilience.
A core part of my philosophy is meeting clients where they are. Whether someone is seeking support for trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, or life stressors, therapy begins by understanding the client’s current experiences and goals. From there, treatment progresses at a pace that feels safe and supportive while working toward meaningful and sustainable growth.
What to Expect in Therapy
Beginning therapy can feel unfamiliar or even intimidating, especially if it is your first time seeking support. The goal of therapy is to create a safe, supportive environment where you can openly discuss your experiences, challenges, and goals without fear of judgment.
During the first few sessions, we will focus on getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. This may include discussing current stressors, past experiences, relationship dynamics, and any patterns that may be affecting your emotional well-being. Together, we will identify goals for therapy and begin developing a plan that supports the changes you would like to see in your life.
Throughout the therapeutic process, sessions may include exploring thoughts and emotions, identifying patterns in relationships or behaviors, and learning practical strategies to help manage stress, anxiety, or difficult life situations. Therapy may also involve processing past experiences that continue to impact your present-day life.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and progress occurs at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive. The goal is to help you gain greater insight into yourself, develop healthier coping skills, and move forward with increased clarity, confidence, and emotional resilience.
What to Expect in the First Session
Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and for you to share what has brought you to therapy. This session is focused on understanding your current concerns, personal history, and what you hope to gain from the counseling process.
During the first session, we will discuss important areas of your life such as current stressors, relationships, emotional challenges, and any past experiences that may be impacting your well-being. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the therapy process so you can feel more comfortable and informed moving forward.
The first session is also a time for us to begin identifying goals for therapy. Together, we will explore what you would like to work toward and discuss possible approaches that may support your progress.
Most importantly, the first session is about creating a space where you feel safe, heard, and understood. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of the process, and therapy will move at a pace that feels supportive and comfortable for you.
